Our Story

Alex Vallings and Lyn Holland established C-Tech in 1997 from a shed in west Auckland. They originally began making carbon components for small yachts. C-Tech then grew to become the exclusive batten supplier to both Defender and Challenger in the 2003 America’s Cup, by 2007 all America’s cup teams were using C-Tech SailBattens, and we have since lead the market on battens and sail hardware. In 2010 C-Tech moved to a custom built, state of the art factory and we have continued to grow. While our roots remain firmly in the marine industry our race proven experience and composite manufacturing expertise have expanded into industrial, aerospace, film, aviation, sporting, automotive and other applications.

Over 25 years later, C-Tech has grown supported by a dynamic team, of directors, Alex Vallings, Lyn Holland, Chris Kitchen, and Riley Dean. 2023 marked a transformative chapter where, we extended our manufacturing to the European continent, realising yet another milestone in our journey of continual growth.

Guided by our profound sailing heritage and driven by the collective vision of our directors, we're committed to understanding our customers' unique needs. Our inventive team has created numerous custom high-quality carbon composite products supplying over 1000+ companies, all in line with our mission to 'Make cool things go fast'. As we embark on another chapter, our commitment to pushing boundaries and crafting innovations remains unwavering!

"We are a customer of C-Tech battens on Kaizen and had heard about some of their Americas Cup work, so when we came to build a new keel we put C-Tech on the list to approach. Coming from our One Design Sailing background we know that C-Tech deliver both quality and precision and as passionate sailors themselves, you are going to get ideas and contribution to a better end product."

"C-tech have really stepped our programme up another level this year, contributing greatly to getting our car down 20kg on last season! Their carbon is second to none in terms of both looks and strength! It has held up flawlessly to a lot of abuse while running on tracks with both rocks and large clumps of dirt. The perfect option to step up your race programme next season!"

Learn more about our capabilities

C-Tech produces a diverse range of high quality parallel and tapered tubing for a wide spectrum of industries. The composite materials, which include pre-impregnated carbon fibre, glass fibre and carbon/glass mixes, share the common benefits of strength, lightness, stiffness, resilience and chemical and corrosion resistance.

Most of our composite tubeware involves relatively short manufacturing runs for specialised applications. In many situations, C-Tech’s problem-solving capabilities and close customer interaction prove invaluable.In-house CNC machining capability allows C-Tech to supply moulds and machined metal parts that can be assembled with composite tubes to provide a complete product solution.

C-Tech also has a 15m long Autoclave which can be used to produce complex moulded parts and high quality surface finishes. Autoclave Technical Specifications.
